    This course covers a variety of fundamental microeconomic concepts and tools. These concepts, theories, and tools are designed to provide the foundational microeconomic knowledge necessary for early-stage business professionals. Course topics include: markets - supply and demand, elasticity, efficiency and equity, trade, externalities, firm behavior, market structure, and labor markets. Algebra is used throughout this course.

    This course covers a variety of fundamental macroeconomic concepts, theories, and tools designed to provide the foundational macroeconomic knowledge necessary for early-stage business professionals. Course topics include: interdependence; national income; GDP; cost of living and indexes; production and growth; savings; investment; unemployment; the monetary system; inflation; open-economy concepts; aggregate supply and aggregate demand; and monetary and fiscal policy. Algebra is used throughout this course. Prerequisite: EC 2201 (EC 201).

    A requirement for any student majoring in a field of study in the Boler College of Business, this course examines contemporary communication practices. Genres and topics covered in the course include business reports and electronic forms of communication; business communication issues; communication technologies; and business research, writing, and presentation. The course carries Additional Writing (AW) and Oral Presentation (OP) designations in the Integrated Core for Business majors. Prerequisite: COM 125 or COM 1251, EN 121 or EN 1210 or EN 125 or EN 1250.

    Introduction to business intelligence and analysis concepts, including data management, summarization, and visualization. Database, spreadsheet, and visualization software offer a hands-on perspective of key tools in data analysis and business decision-making. The course goes beyond software tutorials by using lectures, exercises, and assignments to present data modeling and analytical concepts and techniques. Prerequisite: BI 100 or BI 1100.

    Introduction to the theories and practices of managing employees for competitive advantage. Topics include employee acquisition, career and talent development, reward systems, labor relations, employment law and government regulations, and strategic human resource management. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.Please note that this replaces MHR 352.

    Supply Chain & Operations Mgmt

    The core elements of SCM: customer value, collaboration, and the process of transforming raw materials into successful products. Introduces the three primary functions of supply chain activities: purchasing, operations, and logistics; also, the qualitative and quantitative tools to facilitate and analyze underlying processes. How to leverage concepts such as Just-In-Time, Process Design, and Inventory Control in order to turn great ideas into needed products and services. Prerequisite: EC 210 or EC 2210, or equivalent Statistics course.

    This course introduces students to financial analysis and financial decision-making for modern corporations. Students learn important elements of financial theory, including, but not limited to: financial statements; time value of money; the risk-return relationship; cost of capital; capital budgeting; capital structure; and financial securities valuation. Of further interest are ethical considerations underlying application of financial theory to business practice. Prerequisites: AC 2201 (AC 201), EC 2201 (EC 201) and EC 2202 (EC 202), and EC 2210 (EC 210). Corequisite: AC 2202.

    Introduces students to the field of marketing. Provides an overview of marketing concepts and strategies critical to value-driven marketing. Emphasis on how to develop, promote, distribute, and price an organization’s offerings in a dynamic economic, social, political, and international environment. Ethical issues are also examined.Prerequisite: Sophomore standing with a minimum of 25 credit hours.

    Presentation of strategic management theory and practice. Strategic and operating problems are assessed, and competitive solutions are recommended. Designed to give managers at all levels of the organization tools to make better decisions. General management perspective, global business views, knowledge of functional business disciplines, computer-based analysis, and management presentations are required. Prerequisite: FN 312 or FN 3312, MK 301 or MK 3301, MHR 301 or MOL 3301, SCM 301 or SCM 3301, and Senior standing. Note: MOL 3301 replaces MHR 301.

    Applied Calculus

    MT1300

    Limits, derivatives, definite and indefinite integrals of polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Focus on concepts and applications, particularly those pertaining to business fields. Use of a computer algebra system to facilitate computation. Students who already have credit for MT 1350 or MT 135 may not earn credit for MT 1300. Offered: Fall, Spring.

    Provides coverage of consumer behavior theories, frameworks, concepts, and tools to understand consumers and uncover insights relevant for business and policy. Students learn to generate original consumer insights to create real-world marketing recommendations. Topics drawn from psychology, social psychology, sociology, cultural anthropology, and behavioral economics. Offered spring semester only; should be taken in junior year. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301.

    Digital Marketing

    Explores the many opportunities for, and challenges of, engaging with customers through the ever-changing technological and economic environment. Emphasizes examining and using various digital methods, platforms, and tools in developing social media platforms and tools in developing and implementing strategic “inbound” marketing initiatives that are designed for engaging and collaborating with users. Should be taken in junior year. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301. Offered spring semester only; should be taken in junior year.

    Marketing Analytics And Automation

    3 cr. This advanced-level course delves into the intricate world of digital marketing with focuses on digital marketing metrics, analytics, and attribution models to optimize marketing efforts and drive ROI. Students gain hands-on experience in utilizing marketing technologies to implement and evaluate marketing tactics related to SEO, social media, website management, etc. The course will also cover advanced topics related to marketing automation and AI. Offered fall semester only; should be taken in senior year. 3 cr. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301.

    Applied Market Research And Analysis

    Examination of the quantitative tools marketers use to develop, monitor, and evaluate marketing strategies. Topics include the use of Qualtrics online survey tools, statistical analysis using SPSS, including correlation analysis, difference analysis with t tests, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. Senior standing required. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301, AC 202 or AC 2202, and (EC 210 or EC 2210 or MT 223 or MT 2230 or equivalent level of statistics). Offered fall semester only; should be taken in senior year.

    Sustainable Marketing Management

    Capstone marketing course in which students work with outside organizations to learn value co-creation strategies with stakeholders as a means for managing and growing an organization. A normative framework for justice in marketing provides a holistic perspective for developing leadership skills as marketers. Offered spring semester only; should be taken in senior year. Prerequisites or corequisites: MK 302 or MK 3302 and MK 309 or MK 3309 and MK 402 or MK 4402.

    Integrated Brand Promotion

    Presents an integrated brand promotion (IBP) approach to advertising. IBP involves coordinating all promotional activities, including direct marketing, advertising, sales promotion, personal selling, public relations, publicity, and branded entertainment to create widespread brand exposure. Message development, placement, and timing are examined within the context of the role each type of promotion plays in marketing strategy development. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301. Offered: Fall semester only.

    Global Marketing

    Provides a fundamental understanding of international marketing. Analyzes the scope, opportunities, and challenges associated with marketing across international borders, with a particular emphasis on non-western countries. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301.

    Subsistence Marketing And Social Innovation

    Frames the Boler Belize Project, which focuses on developing social innovation and entrepreneurial skills. Students learn about international entrepreneurship in poverty conditions, how to apply a microenterprise business model framework in international settings, and how to analyze the economic, social and cultural milieu of an impoverished country. Includes an optional trip to Belize during spring break. Offered: Spring semester only.

    Visual Communication In Digital Marketing

    A project-oriented course that focuses on applied knowledge in the production of meaning using visual communications to solve marketing problems. Students learn to develop, refine, and execute visual communication strategies, including creative concept generation, integrated multimedia, typography, informational graphics, copywriting, layout design and brand semiotics. Prerequisite: MK 301 or MK 3301. Mutual exclusion: COM3712.

    Advanced Data-Driven Decision-Making In Marketing

    An in-depth focus on advanced business intelligence (BI) and “power query” tools as they are used in the process of translating data into information and insights. Hands-on classroom work and assignments using BI software provide a learning tool to better understand data access, retrieval, preparation, summarization, and reporting. Data sets enhance a business (and often marketing) context to the concepts and analyses. Prerequisite: BI 200 or BI 2200, EC 210 or EC 2210 (or other comparable statistics class). Restricted to Business Analytics Minors or by permission only.

    Introduction to managing people and teams in organizations. Basic concepts in the behavioral sciences, behavioral principles of management, and applying this information to organizational life. Topics may include contributions of important theories, management functions, motivation, leadership, attitudes, group dynamics, global management behavior, and organizational change. Prerequisite: MHR 301 or MOL 3301 (may also be taken concurrently) or MHR 352.

    Supply Chain Logistics

    Analysis of business supply chain functions such as transportation, warehousing, inventory management, ordering, and customer satisfaction, with emphasis on interactions between these functions. Focus on problem solving with analytic tools. Prerequisite or corequisite: SCM 301 or SCM 3301 or permission of instructor.

    Problems In Supply Chain Management

    The design and implementation of supply chains to maximize their effectiveness and efficiency. Focus on the analysis and design activities of the supply chain development process and introduction to system implementation and maintenance issues. Prerequisites: BI 200 or BI 2200 and SCM 328 or SCM 3328 and one of (SCM 330 or SCM 3330, SCM 350 or SCM 3350, or SCM 361 or SCM 3361.

    Business Problem Solving Across Cultures

    3 Credits

    The capstone course of the IBLC major. Students are confronted with a series of problems that they solve initially for a company in the U.S., and then for a company abroad. Emphasis is on how the solutions need to change as a function of culture. Should be taken in the spring semester of senior year. Prerequisite: IB 3301 or IB 301.

    Special Issues In People Management And Organizational Leadership

    Study special issues and advanced management and organizational leadership topics. Topics include employee well-being, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, people analytics, employment law, organizational development, leadership, ethics, sustainability, and other trends in management and organizational leadership. Students research a topic of choice. Prerequisites or corequisites: MHR 376 or MOL 3376, MHR 453 or MOL 4453, MHR 470 or MOL 4470, Senior standing, or permission of Department Chair.
