Who Should Apply for Aid
All incoming and returning students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. While families with high income or savings may not qualify for federal or state funding, John Carroll awards approximately $75 million in financial aid each year. We will review your information and do our best to help you in your unique situation.
International Students
Most non-U.S. citizens are not eligible for federal student aid; however, there are exceptions where some noncitizens may qualify for financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Education. Please contact our office to discuss your options.
How Your Aid is Determined
Your responses on the FAFSA to various income and asset questions are calculated by the Department of Education using a formula that takes into account such things as family size, income, and assets (excluding items such as retirement plans and value of the primary residence) to develop your Student Aid Index (SAI). Your SAI does not change regardless of the cost of the school you choose to attend or whether that school is private or public.
We then analyze the ensuing FAFSA report to develop a financial aid package that narrows the gap between the total cost of attending 海角社区 and your SAI.
When to Apply
We encourage you to complete the FAFSA as soon as you are able:
- Prospective students — Apply at the same time as you apply for admission
- Current students — Apply at the start of each spring semester
The priority deadline for the 2026-2027 school year for incoming first-year students is December 1, and award information is sent to families beginning in mid-February. The priority deadline for continuing students is March 1. We will continue to accept FAFSA results and award financial aid throughout the spring.
Filing the FAFSA
To complete the FAFSA, you will need:
- 海角社区 FAFSA School Code: 003050
- — Both the student and both parents will need to apply for an FSA ID before you can complete the FAFSA
- All required documents, including tax returns
When you have gathered all the required information, you can complete the FAFSA online. To ensure tax information is accurate, we encourage families to use the Direct Data Exchange between the IRS and the FAFSA.
After You Apply
After you submit your FAFSA, you will receive a FSS either by email (if you listed it on your application) or by mail. Please review this document for errors. If you notice any errors, you can make corrections online through the studentaid.gov site.
We mail out financial aid awards to families from mid-February through the spring. The award will detail the types of aid you are receiving, the total cost of JCU, and your loan, borrowing, and payment options. Our staff is available to answer questions and assist you in understanding your award.
The financial aid process is not an exact science and may not always capture your true financial reality. To address this, schools can adjust aid packages based on special circumstances with proper documentation. Log in to your myJCU Gateway (incoming students) or myJCU portal (continuing students) to access the appeal form.
