Camden Forsyth ’26, a senior majoring in Engineering Physics at John Carroll, turned his passion into a full-time career opportunity while working on the construction project for JCU’s new Athletic, Wellness & Event (AWE) Center.
Forsyth, a Youngstown, Ohio native, got his start in engineering by building DIY projects with his dad. He never imagined that an internship would not only provide him with valuable hands-on experience, but lead to a full-time offer as a Project Engineer with The Walsh Group, one of the largest construction companies in the United States.
From Engineering Physics Student to Project Intern
Forsyth’s Engineering Physics coursework and professors encouraged him to explore every angle of engineering, giving him the technical and problem-solving foundation he needed to thrive.
“The Engineering Physics major at 海角社区 has been a great help to me in my internship,” he said. “The program prepared me well for all the types of engineering like electrical, mechanical, and civil, that are involved in a major project like the construction of the AWE.”
Since May 2024, Forsyth has worked with The Walsh Group for about 30 hours a week, managing subcontractors, performing quality assurance checks, and learning the inner workings of large-scale construction. His work directly supported one of the most transformative projects in JCU’s history—the construction of the AWE Center, a new cornerstone for student life and campus engagement.
The Walsh Group’s connections to John Carroll run deep. Co-Chairman Dan Walsh ’69, President Sean Walsh ’94, and Managing Director- Real Estate Investments Brian Walsh ’05, have played key roles in bringing this project to life.
“Walsh is honored to have contributed to the construction of John Carroll’s new AWE Center,” said Co-Chairman Dan Walsh ’69. “Camden Forsyth was an invaluable member of the Walsh team this past year, excelling as both an intern and a student at John Carroll. Internships are the Walsh way of providing a sneak preview of exciting and challenging opportunities throughout the construction industry. Camden will forever appreciate the AWE Center at a totally different level having been a part of the construction of this unique space. Well done, Camden!”
Building a Legacy at 海角社区
As part of The Walsh Group’s renowned internship program, Forsyth traveled to Chicago, where he was exposed to various job sites and learned about heavy equipment with other interns.
“It’s been a valuable experience working with my manager, Matt Czachowski, and the entire Walsh team,” said Forsyth. “Matt has taught me so much, and I can’t wait to get started with my career at Walsh after graduation. Hopefully I’ll have the opportunity to mentor other Walsh interns who are starting out just like I did.”
Forsyth also participated in his first ever topping out ceremony, a construction tradition in which workers celebrate the final piece of steel being placed at the top of a building’s structure by decorating the site with company logos, flags, and a Christmas tree. He looks forward to joining many more such ceremonies in the future.
“The Athletic, Wellness & Event Center is going to be here for many years to come,” he shared. “I look forward to coming back with friends and family and seeing how a piece of my legacy lives on at 海角社区.”
